Raw Banana Puttu/ Podimass/ Scramble

2 Raw Banana/ Plantains

1 Red Onion (Medium)

1 inch Ginger

1 Green Chilli

½ tsp Black Mustard Seeds

1 tsp Urad Dhall (Black Gram)

Few Curry Leaves

2 tsp Oil (Use any Cold Pressed Oil)

½ tsp Turmeric Powder

¼ tsp Salt

A dash of Black Pepper Powder.


  1. Steam/ Boil Raw Banana for 10 minutes.
  2. Peel the skin and grate it. (You can also crumble them with hands)
  3. Finely chop red onions, chilly and grate ginger.
  4. In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds, once it starts to crackle, add the urad dhall and curry leaves, fry until golden.
  5. Add the onions, ginger, green chilly and fry for 2-3 minutes until the onion gets a golden color.
  6. Add in the grated/ crumbled raw banana, turmeric powder, black pepper powder and fry for 2 minutes.
  7. Serve as side for any rice/ millets dish or just eat like that. Delicious!

  1. To check if the raw banana is cooked insert a knife/ tooth pick at the center. It should be soft enough to get through it and you will be able to peel the skin easily like a fully ripe banana
  2. If you don’t like it spicy either skip green chilly or remove the seeds.
